HOW DO I PROLONG MY TAN?

Skin, no matter what type, will naturally exfoliate. It is how your body gets rid of dead skin. The more you moisturize, the slower your skin exfoliates itself. Sometimes, the skin is receptive to DHA. It depends on the layer of dead skin cells you may have and how dry your skin may be. We recommend using any lotion that is gentle. Some of our favorites include Aveeno, Lubriderm, Baby Lotion, and Eucerin. Lotions found at Bath and Body Works and Victoriaʼs Secret are not recommended. These lotions contain a large amount of alcohol which is known to ruin a great tan.

SHOULD I STILL WEAR SUNSCREEN WITH SELF TANNER ON MY SKIN?

YES! Although Tan In The Raw tanning solution already contains a sunscreen mixture rated to SPF 30. Regardless, its is always safe to apply sunscreen whenever you are going to be in the sun for any prolonged period of time. Most products do not contain sunscreen but make sure to always check. Read the labels!!

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HVLP AND HP TANNING SYSTEMS

Donʼt let this confuse you. The HVLP system is high velocity, high pressure machine that runs louder than the typical air compressor. It pushes out lots of solution in a wide range to cover skin quickly. A client can be completely tanned within a few minutes. These machines are great if you don’t mind the extra noise. This system is very good for a mobile business. There are few HVLP’s that are really quiet. If you seek a quieter system, then you will want to look at the HP’s. With a lower velocity it may take up to approximately 5 – 7 minutes longer to complete a tanning session. The pressure is high on this system which is good for the amount of solution coming out of the gun. This system is great for the salons that require a quieter environment. Because these machines are heavier then the HVLP system, they are not as mobile. HP’s also tend to be more expensive because the airbrush flow is finer and transfers up to 80% of the solution to your body. In other words, the over spray is almost eliminated. There are great HVLP systems that transfer up to 80% of solution to your skin, but experimentation is key in order to understand what works best for you and your clients. It is beneficial to get a machine with minimal over spray if the machine is being brought into more intimate settings such as a client’s home. A portable pop up tent is recommended for the mobile tanner, but we have found it convenient to spray clients in their showers. A machine’s pricing varies from relatively affordable to very expensive, but generally you get what you pay for. As such, it is wise to invest in a machine priced in the higher spectrum when starting up a salon or mobile business. Better equipment will help ensure the highest level quality of tanning that your clients will receive, and in doing so, will build the integrity of your business.

THE TRUTH ABOUT NATURAL TANNING SOLUTIONS AND THE PERCENTAGES OF THEM

Is your airbrush tanning solution all natural? There is no way of guaranteeing whether or not a product is. Most people hire manufacturers to make a generic product for them and slap their own label on the bottle and call it their own. This is why most products are the same. It’s hard to separate quality products from those of lesser quality which is why it’s important to READ THE LABEL! Clear solution is good for the customer who doesn’t want to be loaded with bronzer. Tinted solution gives you an amazing glow right away that keeps getting darker as time goes by. There are 3 different percentages of DHA applied to solutions: 8.5%, 10% and 12.5%. Some solutions may vary. What many people donʼt know is that the percentage levels of DHA can be diluted with distilled water. For every two ounces of self tanning solution measured, add one ounce of distilled water. This will bring the percent level down 2%. We typically use a 12.5% solution. Occasionally, it will be diluted for an ultra fair skinned client.
